As you guessed, the touchscreen seems to be also handled by synaptics driver, hence this might look to the system like you have two touchpads.
Sorry for the late reply, but I might need to read up a little more on this, as searching for anything related to synaptic or touchpad only yields the really basic stuff, or stuff related to multi-touch support on only one touchpad, nothing about multiple touchpads.
You could try to disable the touchscreen via
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/To ... are_toggle but the script would need to be called by the display manager before the actual desktop starts.
You could also try to ask in KDE forums if there's a way to supress the touchscreen from enabling.
