Touchpad issue: two detected?

Postby xboxboy » Apr 9th, '16, 03:30

My system was working fine, then I needed to update the bios for a completely unrelated issue. Now upon logging in I get a box at the top of the screen "touch pad status".

It says something along the lines of two touchpads were detected and the the daemon can't handle this configuration. Can I stop this warning somehow?

What desktop environment do you use?
And please post the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
xinput list
synclient -l

I'm running KDE

Here are those results, I run them as user and root, as xinput gave no result.

And I forgot to mention this has a touch screen, so that may be something to do with it. Interesting that it never complained prior to the BIOS update.

For xinput, you may need to install the xinput package, and then run that xinput query again as normal user.
Also please mention what model/make your box is, and please attach the complete /var/log/Xorg.0.log

As you guessed, the touchscreen seems to be also handled by synaptics driver, hence this might look to the system like you have two touchpads.

Sorry for the late reply, but I might need to read up a little more on this, as searching for anything related to synaptic or touchpad only yields the really basic stuff, or stuff related to multi-touch support on only one touchpad, nothing about multiple touchpads.
You could try to disable the touchscreen via https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/To ... are_toggle but the script would need to be called by the display manager before the actual desktop starts.
You could also try to ask in KDE forums if there's a way to supress the touchscreen from enabling.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting that it only occurred after the bios update on an existing install, and due to warranty for an unrelated issue, on a clean install.

Don't really want to disable the touch screen. I'll do some reading also.
