[SOLVED] Locale and konsole

Postby turboscrew » Sep 3rd, '14, 08:22

Any idea why the konsole prints this after each given command:
Code: Select all
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LANGUAGE = "en_GB.UTF-8:en_GB:en",
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LC_PAPER = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_ADDRESS = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_MONETARY = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_SOURCED = "1",
        LC_NUMERIC = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_TELEPHONE = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_MESSAGES = "en_GB.UTF-8",
        LC_IDENTIFICATION = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_COLLATE = "en_GB.UTF-8",
        LC_MEASUREMENT = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LC_CTYPE = "en_GB.UTF-8",
        LC_TIME = "en_GB.UTF-8",
        LC_NAME = "fi_FI.UTF-8",
        LANG = "en_GB.UTF-8"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

Could that have something to do with corrupted stuff on the disk?
My old disk started showing symptoms of dying, so I got a new disk and ddrescued the old disk into the new one raw.
(using the newest TRK 3.4 beta - older didn't work with my HW)
If, then how do I fix it?

Also, if I select English as the language, how do I select Finland as the country?
I'm a Finn alright, but I rather use English with computers due to much more settled terminology.

[edit - ignore the following line. I left it there so that the next comments make sense.]
(Also, how do I control the disk power? There doesn't seem to be hdparm available.)

As a general hint and golden rule: Please only one problem per thread ;)

Yes. But this is just one line sidepath, but related . I wouldn't like to have these problems again.
The line was also in parenthesis as "if someone happens to know"
Maybe I'll make another thread about it,

After language selection, in the next screen, I don't see any "other countries"-button - and no such selection either.
(My system is installed, but something may have been corrupted due to a disk problem),

Ah, the "advanced" changes to "other countries" if you wait.
But Finland is not found there, and I can't select other languages (but between the "dialects" of English) either.

Please install locales-fi and then try again, Finland will show up in the first dialog.

Thanks. That fixed it.
The locale-whinings were really irritating.
