[SOLVED] Incorrect number of available updates in notificat.

Postby darkduck » Feb 7th, '14, 22:32

I have a notification that 52 updates are available for my Mageia 4 KDE 64bit. However, when I open updates window, there are only 6.

Is it a bug or it can be solved somehow?

The lower popup is from apper, which uses packagekit. See Errata: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Errata#Apper

I see that I can disable Apper notifications. But are they valid? Shouldn't they be applied instead?

Well, if you trust Apper more than urpmi, you can try to apply them instead.
Just check it: Count how many updates urpmi/mgaapplet will offer, look at the mirror to doublecheck
then look how many updates apper offers. You know, they use the same repo and offer the same packages as updates ...

I checked some apps from Appert. It shows updates available in tainted repository, whereas the same version of the apps is already available in normal repository in MCC. For example lib64gbm1, vlc.
Can I simply uninstall Apper instead of deactivation of it?

Finally a sane question :p
I suppose you can, currently not at my main box, but this one doesn't have apper installed and KDE is still working fine :)
Code: Select all
urpme apper
should take care of it.

But remember, apper is only the frontend, you cannot dispose the whole of packagekit that easily.
On the other hand packagekit will still be present, only the KDE frontend will be missing so the suggestion from Errata is OK IMHO.
In other words: You won't gain anything by removing apper over simply disabling it.
