Successful Install But "Operating System Not Found"

Postby tjdean01 » Apr 27th, '26, 01:20

Hey, guys. I've been using Linux for a while on 2 of my PCs and have been very happy. I have a 2012-ish little red Acer Aspire One ZA3 netbook I want to revive. Q4OS doesn't play nice with Acer (failed install; plus Debian-based so 32-bit support is going away), so I'd like to try Mageia. My install went smoothly but upon boot it can't find the OS. Any ideas?

Specs are Intel Atom Z520 single-core at 1.33 Ghz, 2GB RAM, 128 SSD (I made a few upgrades to this PC). It still boots to Windows if I put the original HD in. Thanks!

Hi there, do you boot in UEFI or BIOS mode, and what installation media did you use to install Mageia ?

You may need to enable an option before bootloader installation, have a look at the recent thread: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic. ... 310#p92310
or maybe https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Archive:_Mag ... _firmwares

BIOS, I believe. I had to Google what UEFI means. I only go to BIOS to set boot order....I used a 16 GB USB stick.

I'm willing to do what it takes. That said, the option the guy had to install the OS under "boot" was not something that was available during my install, though it could have been an option/menu that I missed. I'm going to try to spend 1 hour a day working on this just to get it working. Thanks for the help!

if you installed via a "LIVE" system, can you post output of

Code: Select all
$ inxi -Fxxxz

if you installed from a Classical.iso ( offers several desktop environments), please advise which .iso.

regards

I installed from Mageia-9-i586.iso

Doubt it matters but the unzipped folder also contained these files (Screenshot attached):

can you take some photos of your bios options

ZIP them to a file and attach.
there is a file size limit.

or attach a link to your device user manual.

to confirm the install actually occurred, restart the install and you should be offered to upgrade the install a few screens into the installer.
if no offer, the install did not write to the partition.

you can either continue with the install, or quit.
