[SOLVED] Computer and printer "not talking"

[SOLVED] Computer and printer "not talking"

Postby laidlaws » Feb 2nd, '25, 09:02

Running Mageia 9. I have just bought a Brother MFC printer. The online software installed without any real problems. The model number is too recent for CUPS, which put the printer on a USB address, although it is configured for Wi-fi, and cannot be edited.
The MFC shows up in Mageia's hardware, but I can't print to it. The message is
Code: Select all
Waiting for the printer to become available.

There are many discussions of this issue on the Web, but they all seem to boil down to "Try anything, and keep trying until it works." My first thought was to delete the printer and start again but CUPS changes me to myself, instead of Root.

I am not afraid of the command line. I was ab le to delete the printer with lpadmin. That is enough to mark this thread a SOLVED.

Well, it is kinda solved. I gave up on the Wi-fi connection, and connected the printer with a USB cable. The maximum length of the cable was 2 metres, exiting from the far side of the printer, but it worked straightaway..

Yea, I went through the same thing trying to print by wifi. Canon 3500 series. I wound up just using a USB cable.
