internal USB cable error

Postby laidlaws » Dec 8th, '24, 12:55

My Mga 9 cannot boot. It reports that Pin 7 on a usb socket cannot accept a pin, therefore the drive containing /boot/EFI can't be mounted, which causes dependency issues in turn . There are 8-pin USB sockets all over the motherboard. Is there a way of identifying the problem one quickly?

If the error says that connector/pin 7 is the culprit, it would be good to have a look into the mainboard manual....

Also check your HDD/SSD connections.

What is the message exactly?

What is reporting the error - Bios, GRUB, kernel...?

Do you have the drive containing /boot/EFI on USB??

Well, that sounds strange - how should an USB socket prevent boot if it's not the one that connects the drive where /boot/EFI is located on? Could you attach actual journal logs please ?

But quickest identify - unplug all of them.

I am not sure if I am writing in, the correct place. I should be able to send logs. Windows is mostly on /dev/sda, a 500 gb M.2 ssd. Mageia is on a HD. /boot/EFI, on sdb, drives both
