[SOLVED] After upgrade 8 to 9 no switch user

Postby hosadeeb » Oct 13th, '23, 16:44

Hi there,
After upgrading from Mageia 8 to 9, I had a few problems most of which I could either solve, hack or live with. But a few moments ago I needed to switch to another user profile and found that it's no more available.

I'm using XFCE, on an x_86 system. The option XFCE offers is: dm-tool switch-to-greeter. Since it does nothing, I tried invoking it from the shell, and I got the following error message:
Not running inside a display manager, XDG_SEAT_PATH not defined

I'm currently using GDM.

I'd really appreciate your valuable input: what should I do? Is there a setting I need to manipulate?

Thanks a million in advance.

Why don't you simply logout, and select a different user for login ?

I'm afraid this is definitely not the simplest solution! It's a hassle! My target was to easily switch between the two profiles. But if this option has been disabled or removed, I'd just need to know.

A quick internet search i found someone say dm-tool is a lightdm utility, so try switching from GDM to LightDM.
And also ask at a XFCE forum.

Well, I used to use that (LightDM), but it has the disadvantage of making it difficult to switch between window-managers/desktop environments, since those are displayed in a very short list; when you go down the list, you go blindly...

I just might resort to that. But, thanks anyway for your answer.

You could try with https://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel ... tch-plugin but seems we don't have that packaged. But it also does seem to need LightDM.

I did switch to LightDM, and things work just fine. I also apologise for confusing it with LXDEDM! It was the one I meant when I said it has a rather short list of installed window managers/desktop environments...

Thanks a million for your cooperation.
