Ok, so your box is using the proprietary nvidia driver.
Now there are multiple issues that you partially described - some more explanation is required, as you only put a few words here and there without any context:

- erratic screensaver (erratic how exactly ?)
- screen "hangs" and you have to reboot (screen hangs how exactly, what does that mean)
- jitter while watching videos on youtube (only under plasma, not under mate?)
- no sound, no you tube - while watching youtube? (this sounds confusing)

Totally apart from that, is that with Mageia 8 or 9? And is that a fresh installation, if so which install media did you use? Or was it an upgrade from Mageia 8?

When ever the system is left for a while the screen just stops working the whole system becomes unresponsive; And it has to be re-booted.

The Mageia update comes from the icon that was on the top panel.
Thia was a upgrade from Mageia 8.
It wasn't a fresh installation. I just clicked clicked on the icon on the top panel.
There is no audio no matter what I do.
The jitter looks just like a bad TV picture.
Only on plasma,not Mate.

should bring up the PA volume control GUI.
Tabs are:
Playback, Recording, Output devices, Input devices, Configuration.

check these settings and see if your speakers are selected / active, (or muted)
In the Output devices tab, there should be a slider. Adjusting this should give a "popping" from your speakers, and a corresponding shift in the "VU" bar below it.
