compiling a program from source

Postby lloyd » Aug 16th, '23, 13:48

I need some help here...I'm trying to compile a program from source and I really don't know where to start...:-(

The prgram I am trying to compile is orca-slicer (a 3D printing slicer) that I found on Github. There are a few versions of this program. One is a pre-compiled Appimage that only seems to work on Ubuntu. It didn't work on my Mageia Cauldron beta 2 (it is fully updated). There is a shell script to build it, but again, it seems to be specific to Ubuntu.I downloaded and unzipped the source code. Now, I do not know what to do next.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

In parallel you could help upstream by reporting the issue with their Appimage.

Also in parallel, you could add your voice for requesting it as Flatpak, at https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/issues/1670

As an alternative app, a post there also mention PrusaSlicer Flatpak works well for him, so you could try that program.

Another alternative: I downloaded and test launched Cura Appimage from https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura/ , the Linux "modern" variant Appimage.
