Video playback fails and logs me out

When I'm trying to view a movie, sometimes I only get sound, but most of the times I get logged-out and presented the login screen. At first, I thought there weren't any codecs installed, yet I didn't know what to install exactly, so I've installed pretty much everything that starts with gstreamer* in the hope I'll be able to watch movies on my laptop. If it helps, the laptop is an Asus X58C (manufactured in late 2008), using those pesky SiS chips all-over.

What graphics chip and what driver is used? Please post the output of

And which media player have caused the logout?

I'll post the output from lspci a bit later when I'll get home. From what I vaguely remember, it's a SiS 712 (or something like that). Regarding which player caused the issue, well, all of those that I tried (Totem, Kaffeine and a lot more I cannot remember right now), with the same result.

As there has been no further progress on that one, only watching may not be enough.
Comment there that you are also affected and if there has been any progress so far?
