[CLOSED] Mageia versions and VNC connection

[CLOSED] Mageia versions and VNC connection

Postby rychok » Feb 9th, '22, 22:21

I have at work and at home file server running MGA6, the work station at work has MGA4 installed, at home I upgraded my computer from MGA5 to MGA7.
When I run vncserver on MGA6 (running in multiple user mode) and trying to connect from workstation using KDRC on MGA7 (similar results from other clients, only java version of tigervnc viewer connects) I'm only getting blue screen without being asked for password (tigervnc - not java - will ask for password but still no connections). I have found information pointing to openssl 1.1.x default settings - MGA7 - may cause handshake failure, but my problem is that I can connect from MGA7 to MGA4(as vnc server), MGA4 and 5 to MGA6(as vnc server) and there is no problem to connect from any version to VMware vnc connection.
I do not need very often graphical interface and java version is working , therefore it is not a big deal, I'm just curious where the mightbe.
Thank You for any suggestions.

The problem is that you are using systems which aren't supportet anymore. Mageia 4 had NO security updates since 6 1/2 years!

Set up your systems with an actual version. Nobody will try to recreate your problems with such outdated versions.

MGA5 is not a problem here.
I mentioned MGA4 to show that somehow on MGA4 (nucg older system) vnc is working both ways, I can connect to server on MGA4 using KRDC on MGA7 and connect from MGA4 KRDC to MGA6 server, but I can not connect from KRDC from MGA7 to server on MGA6, MGA4 is not the issue here MGA7 is.

And also Mga7 is EOL and hence unsupported.
As most users care about security they can't reproduce such a setup like yours. Additional you didn't provide any information which could be useful for troubleshooting like terminal outputs or error messages.

You do not have any useful messages, KRDC not showing any error vnc server shows message message about TLS, that is why in my first post I have already said that based on my research the problem is default setting in OpenSSL 1.1.x which not allow two sides to find common handshake (I tried connect from MGA8 same as MGA7).
So the only thing I was hoping for was that someone will show me the way how I may check, and maybe change settings of OpenSSL.

And you can't even post that "message about TLS" ? Or try any other VNC viewer apart from krdc ?

Regarding your question, you may want to have a look at https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27343 or maybe https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... -hardening
But understand that this is a system-wide setting, and unless you post what actual issue you have it's not a good idea to compromise/lower the security of your whole server just to enable the VNC connection. But as you're already running outdated Mageia versions, it might as well not matter at all ...

Thank You for links.
In my first post I mentioned all vnc clients I have used, and that java version of tigervnc is working, and that I was just curious about this cross versions different outcome. I would expect that MGA7 will for sure not connect to server on MGA4 after not connecting to MGA6.
