New Install Mageia 7.1 problem

Postby brm » Apr 28th, '20, 01:46

Hi all. My attempted install of Mageia 7.1 came from here
https://www.mageia.org/en/downloads/
The ISO was Mageia-7.1-x86_64. It was downloaded, unzipped, and installed to a usbdrive using etcher.

The usbdrive booted ok and I was able to commence the install. Partitioning proved to be a problem. The disk is a Intel SSD. Despite my best attempts I could not get past the Format/Partitioning phase. The reported error was.
"Cant call method "val" on undefined value"

Initially I was using btrfs on exising partitions, but eventually moved to auto select and user defined modes to try and get the partitioning accepted. But it kept defaulting to the error.
Not sure what I was doing wrong here. Any ideas?

Ok, some progress. It seems that the Partitioning phase is completed ok. Please refer to attached image. Following this step some package management steps take place that causes the install to fail. Not sure if the references to cdrom are ok - my install medium is the sdcard on a usb stick.

I am surprised that worked at all :)
It is supposed simply to be low level written to the device as is.

I think your problem seem unrelated, but it may bee that the installer gets confused and hence the error, so please try to make the flash stick as intended.

Report back how it goes.

Hmm no luck so far. This time I used the dd command to copy the .iso to the usb stick /sdcard. Similarly, this booted ok and proceeded with the install, but only to the same point as last time. At the conclusion of partitioning the error message was the same. It seems to be a package management issue.

Did you verify the checksum for your download ? For the checksums, have a look again at https://www.mageia.org/en/downloads/get ... x86_64.iso
This error "An error occurred. Can't call method "val" on an undefined value" usually occurs if the download was corrupted.

This is resolved. Using a fresh downloaded iso (from your link) and copying this to the usb device using the dd command has worked. The install proceeded and finished ok. Thank you.
