[Solved] Where is sshd?

Postby BrentRogers » Apr 23rd, '20, 04:29

How do i enable the Secure Shell Daemon process?

I have SSH installed on my Win 10 and Win 8 machines.
But they cannot seem to connect to my Mangeia 7 machine.

Do I need the sshd service?
Where can I find it?
How do I start it?

The command

Code: Select all
# systemctl start sshd

did it on my system.

Did you install the server package, openssh-server-7.9p1-1.mga7?

Turns out I did not install the server package -- took me a while to find it.
Now I am getting the error:
"Key Exchange with the remote host failed. This can happen if the remote host computer does not support the selected algorithms"

How do I configure SSHD and identify the algorithms the client is using?

Sorry. I don't have a clue on that one.

My SSH client is quite old.
I am wondering if there is a SSH client for Mangeia that I can install on my Linux Laptop.
If so where can I find the SSH Client?

I was under the impression that that the ssh client is installed by default on Mageia. Does your Linux laptop have a different distro? If so, you should be able to install it from the repositories of that distro.

It is the same distribution. I too thought that the ssh client is installed by default.

Ok -- I found ssh
It is just a command line from one of the terminal windows.
ssh works on my Mageia Laptop.
… Now why not from my Windows machines?

I haven't run Windows for many years, so I don't know much about it.

Do you have to be in a workgroup or something like that? I am just guessing.

Problem seems to be my "OLD" SSH client.

Found SSH on my Mangeia Laptop - it works.

Found out that Win10 has an SSH client bundled. Run SSH from a Command Prompt or PowerShell Prompt.
This works.

Consider the problem Solved.

That's great. Please edit the subject line of the original post and mark the thread [SOLVED].

Edit: Oops. Didn't notice that you had already done that.
