CLOSED Missing GRUB upgrade options in MGA7 upgrade ISO.

Postby marchugo » Dec 9th, '19, 16:08

Hi,

I downloaded and burned the MGA7.1 ISO for X86-64. Checksums are OK.

I decided to do a clean install. After booting the DVD the screen shows: "GRUB>" As per instructions on the website I use the TAB key to get a menu of upgrade options, one of which should be 'Install MGA7".
Instead of the list of upgrade options, I get a long list of GRUB commands, like: authentication, boot, break etc.
There seems no way to get the list of upgrade options.
I downloaded the ISO on this same pc. The ISO date is 13.07.2019, so that is the latest version.

What went wrong and how can I install MGA7 per ISO?

Thanks for hints.

Do you use legacy BIOS boot or UEFI, and what hardware is that running on ? Seems something went wrong during the burning process.
This is what you should see: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installing_o ... boot_media
(except that it says Mageia 7 instead of 5 and the background is slightly different)

The system is BIOS based. I downloaded and burned the ISO on this same system, so no UEFI involved. I checked the integrity of the ISO before burning .

My system is AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+, graphics is Nvidia NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache].

I do not get nice screens like tou showed me in your link. I just get a grey/black screen which shows: GRUB >. When I hit the TAB button, a list of possible grub commands is shown. There is no Mageia menu with choices to install.

That suggests that GRUB is not able to read its configuration file from the DVD. Can you recheck the burned DVD to see if the checksum is correct? Or alternatively, try another DVD.

Or try a USB stick to prevent wasting more DVDs, if the mainboard supports booting from USB - many older mainboards do.
