Mageia 7.0 USB install with Rufus

Postby moogy » Sep 12th, '19, 17:22

Hello

After 3 years of abcense I want to re-install the latest version 7.0. My last install was by a DVD with no problems.

Now I have tried the USB way and nothing works.

Mageia-7.1-Live-Plasma-x86_64
Mageia-7.1-x86_64

Rufus

8gig key

The device is not seen as a bootable by the BIOS

I tried kubuntu-19.04-desktop-amd64 and it works fine

Is this legacy BIOS or UEFI boot? Also, in rufus, did you select the dd way of writing? https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/wiki/F ... dia_issues

This is a UEFI boot but it also supports legacy

Most of the option are locked once I load the ISO

For Kubuntu I have more control of the configuration

Meaning I don't really have a choice on how and what options to use when I burn to the USB key

I load the image and all the options are greyed out

Do you mean in Rufus or when actually booting from the USB key, because your description is a bit ambiguous.
You could try with any of the 2.x version, they still offer the dd method, I can't really find this in the newer 3.x versions anymore.

Apart from that, your question would be more suitable for https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/issues

Not needed if you check the Rufus FAQ, subsection: Power keys/Cheat modes: Use Alt-I to switch between modes: ISO-image or DD-image mode.

When I tested it, Rufus 3.3 automatically used dd mode for writing the Mageia 7 ISOs (there was no other option). The result was bootable in both legacy and UEFI mode on my machine.
