[Solved] Font Style in Mageia 7

Postby royd1 » Jul 29th, '19, 09:59

Hi All

I am enjoying Mageia 7.
I just need a little help with fonts within some programs, Gimp, Filezilla, PDFSam; its the menus etc that I want to change.. they are really horrible. Is there an overall font manager or is it a per program. The font is high, skinny and thin, I can barely read them. I would add a picture but I am not sure how to add a jpg to show what I am seeing.

I am running KDE.

Thank you Roy

As far as I know, font settings in KDE Plasma only affect KDE applications (maybe Qt ones too?). GIMP, Filezilla and PDFSam should all use GTK libraries instead, so they aren't affected and use separate settings: I think GTK applications on X11 (which should be what you're running on since it's the default) use the Fontconfig settings, but don't know of a way to configure them other than directly editing its configuration files (enter 'man fonts-conf' in a terminal for the full documentation, or just search for Fontconfig on the Web). What you probably need to look up is font hinting settings

I would also adjust the font hinting settings from the Plasma settings first and later you could try from the MCC (Mageia Control Center). You will find the font settings in the system panel.
I am not using Plasma right now but I thought Plasma offers also a setting for Gtk apps from the system settings?

[Solved] Re: Font Style in Mageia 7 -

Hi All
I have been able to fix a couple of programs Gimp, and filezilla. I did go into System Settings and under Appearance, Application Style, Gnome/GTK Application Style I changed the font.

I will keep trying different options to see if I can fix the others.
Thank you Roy

Which are the others that could not be fixed? AFAICT PDFSam is java-based, although I don't know what toolkit it uses.
Maybe you can find some help there: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ja ... ment_fonts

Just the PDFsam which I hardly ever use at home. I have adjusted fonts and my monitor so pretty good now.
Not as sharp as I would like but I will adjust a few more items like graphics card and monitor. At least its useable now

Cheers Roy
