[SOLVED] Connected but nothing happens?

[SOLVED] Connected but nothing happens?

Postby salebih » Aug 23rd, '11, 19:02

Hello, I just installed Mageia from DVD 64bit version..

My Acer notebook is connected to cable connection over tp-link router;
because broadcom wirelles doesnt work for some reason on Mageia, I have connected it via ethernet cable to router.

DHCP is on, it says connected, shows me valid ip, gateway, dns.. but when I try to open any web page, nothing happens, I just wait and wait, Firefox seems to be "loading" but doesn't open anything and shows no error.

Any help would be appreciated !

Hello,
Did you have a look to the firewall ? IPV6 settings ? Is your router working with another PC, do you have enough IP addresses available in the router? Does your router have a filter for MAC addresses ?
Did you try the "ping" command towards the router ?
What is the length of your cable ?

OK, it was my mistake, MAC filtering was the problem, and I couldn't understand why till now.. silly mistake, only wireless mac address was in the allowed group ,but not the ethernet, because I haven't used it in a while :) I feel stupid now.. huh. I was in a hurry today so I didn't see that -.-
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction !

Now if I could just make my Broadcom 43225 wireless work under Mageia :)

Happy for you.

About your Broadcom 43225, open a new thread with all the details, what is your hardware? What have you tried? what were the results or the comments?
