Hello, I need your help please, I speak Spanish and my English is not good, sorry, I will use images as help.
I use 3D design software, my ultimate goal is to achieve work Unreal Engine 4 on Mageia 6 but I've had some issues before you begin to do this.
I installed VMware14 for use 3dsMax, Maya... I available in settings display the option "Accelerate 3D graphics" https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wRQoTOmUBVo8226jgbQN6WPKRquegiro/view?usp=sharing
and when I run my VM (windows8) show this message: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R1-LPxqBrEWP_QWb5Y-LlKrqSLrK-YjL/view?usp=sharing -how do I update the drivers for OpenGL on my computer? (my video card support opengl 4.1)
this is specifications my video card https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZBxb5Fo5uJsGVOjwZc6lJ2C8Uj_89bFN/view?usp=sharing
I read in this wiki https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_the_graphical_server and do this but not work 3D acceleration hardware
1. update all repositories from MCC: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sm8KD1 ... sp=sharing
2. In section "graphical server" select something close to my video card: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y0-dRE ... sp=sharing
3. here there is no option to activate the graphics hardware accelerated, nor any option to select and install drivers proprietary ati (repositories Nonfree and Tainted are enabled) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yT-tQK ... sp=sharing
4. when I finish the setup wizard, "hardware 3D Acceleration" is NO, why for this? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yxV7cS ... sp=sharing
5. I read that is requerided Mesa for opengl, but in MCC have install Mesa 17.1.5 ._. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CtFftz ... sp=sharing
6. in terminal I use:
Code: Select all

You currently have only software acceleration via mesa. It might help if you would at least mention what graphics card you're using.

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA

Sorry, I've no experience with current ATI drivers. I believe you can use either radeon or amdgpu drivers, but I've no clue what to pay attention to to get proper hardware acceleration.

You probably need to wait for some of the ATI owners to comment.

I once had a similar problem https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12075. I got it fixed by updating mesa. But Im not sure this was really the cure.
What do you have in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf? Especially in the Device section. I have attached mine as an inspiration. I think you can use both radeon and ati in Driver. I haven't been able to find documentation on the difference.

thanks brother, I have install Mageia 6, my last version is Mesa 17.1.5 and version OpenGL is 3.3 (my video card support opengl 4.1 and this work perfectly in Window)
Code: Select all
# glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD JUNIPER (DRM 2.49.0 / 4.9.56-desktop-1.mga6, LLVM 3.9.1)
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 17.1.5
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
OpenGL core profile extensions:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 17.1.5
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL context flags: (none)
OpenGL extensions:
OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.0 Mesa 17.1.5
OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.00
OpenGL ES profile extensions:

Code: Select all
# lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Juniper XT [Radeon HD 6770] [1002:68ba]
Subsystem: PC Partner Limited / Sapphire Technology Device [174b:1482]
        Kernel driver in use: radeon

Code: Select all
...in file etc/X11/xorg.conf I have...
Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
BoardName "ATI Radeon HD 6400 and later (radeon/fglrx)"
    Driver "ati"
    Option "DPMS"
    Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
EndSection

I'm going to try to change the option 'ati' by 'radeon' in section Driver from file xorg.conf , I hope it works.
what works for you the 3D hardware acceleration?

I have experimented with both radeon and ati. I don't see any difference with my HD7770. But in http://tuxradar.com/content/modify-xorgconf-better-performance it is slightly indicated that ati is for newer hardware while radeon is for older hardware. Where the limit is I don't know.

Right now I'm using amdgpu, see https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12075, but there it is a good idea to use the newest kernel and mesa. Which comes with Cauldron. And Cauldron can give you all kinds of interesting problems. That being said I think Cauldron is quite stable and it does keep you on bleeding edge :ugeek:

You might also want to delete the Option "AccelMethod" "EXA". I don't have it in my xorg.conf.
I think it's UXA or SNA nowadays (but not sure).
But that has nothing to do with 3D graphics. Only 2D.

Hi, hansmicheelsen
I did tests, by changing the section "Driver:" file xorg.conf
-Driver "radeon" : opengl 3.0
-Driver "ati" : opengl 3.0
-Driver "amdgpu": the system is not started after reboot, while loading the operating system, it showed me a window that said "The system seha restarted due to a change in the driver of the graphics card. Select 'Cancel' to stop the operation within 30 seconds." Never start the system and at the end of the 30 seconds it restarts the pc. I had to enter with a LiveCD and edit xorg.conf with 'Driver radeon' to fix the problem ._.
In the configuration wizard, server-graphics, I chose other version of video card ATI and it's still showing opengl3 and vmware still doesn't work without hardware 3D acceleration.
Why in Mageia 6 does not work OpenGL4 graphics cards AtiRadeon?
do you recommend that I migrate to Mageia Cauldron, offers fewer problems than Mageia6 and work opengl4?
Since I don't know what to do, I'm losing patience with this, I'll have to go to Ubuntu :(

Before you go please try to put modprobe.blacklist=radeon amdgpu.si_support=1 radeon.si_support=0 in your boot options. And amdgpu in xorg.conf. Its written in the post I referred to.

Maybe I should not recommend you to switch to Cauldron. But I do not see that many problems. And I have opengl 4.5 running.

As far as I know the 6770 (Northern Islands) isn't supported by the amdgpu driver, so only the fglrx and radeon drivers can be used.

The radeon driver, unless I'm mistaken, only supports up to OpenGL 3.3 for that card, so the only option would be fglrx. Unfortunately I haven't used that driver in ages, so I'm not sure what's wrong. It seems that the radeon drivers are being used, but if you'd followed those steps with the MCC it should've set everything to use the fglrx driver; maybe you need to manually blacklist the radeon kernel module?

I wonder what would happen if mesa was updated to the latest bugfix release (from 17.1.4 to 17.1.109), see https://www.mesa3d.org/.
I have posted a bug report: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22260
Could someone please fill in the missing detail on Source RPM? I'm currently stuck at a Windows machine, arrrgh!
