Mageia on surface Pro 4

Postby philwgiia » Jun 15th, '17, 21:39

I just installed Mageia Cauldron 6 RC on my surface Pro 4 and everything seems to work execpt Touchscreen and Pen ... and some warnings after boot by grub2 on "i2c_hid etc... " things that timed out. I then need help on :
1. how to enable Microsoft-Intel SurfaceTouch drivers to get the tactile functions ?
2. how to get a most readable display (written thing are very tiny because of the high resolution of the screen) ?
thanks ! :)

It would be helpful if you could attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log here. In general this seems to be possible but might need a fairly recent kernel and some patches on top, seems some Intel engineers are working on integrating those in the upstream kernel. See https://www.reddit.com/r/SurfaceLinux/c ... any_linux/
Or it might be sufficient if you compile the ipts suite on your current install: https://github.com/ipts-linux-org/ipts-linux/wiki and there's a newer rewrite at https://github.com/ipts-linux-org/ipts-linux-new

For a general overview on Surface support, see https://www.reddit.com/r/SurfaceLinux/c ... _surfaces/

You may want to change either the DPI value via your desktop environment or adjust the scaling. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HiDPI
What desktop environment do you use currently?

Thanks doktor5000 for your advices ...

I'll try to follow the instructions of your reddit/github links that seem to fix my problem.
The file Xorg.0.log is attached at this post if it can help more precisly ...
About my environnement, I'm on "Plasma" under mageia 6 RC and I've searched in all configuration menus and submenus the ability of keeping the max resolution of the screen with a scale of display that could make it more comfortable but i've found nothing that worked.
I think, il's because the display screen is on a generic intel driver (named "820 and later" ... although it is an HD-520 Graphic Card) with an "plug and play" screen that is maybe not recognized for all its abilities ...
Perhaps the adding of ipts-intel drivers will solve this in the same time ?

Once again : thanks a lot for your help, i'll let you know if it works or not :D

Not really. Either your screen can be driven at the maximum resolution or not. At what resolution does it run?
And did you read the Arch wiki page?

Yes, i did and this point is now solved, thanks.
In fact, the scale was set at "x1.6" but didn't take any effects on the display but after trying "x2" - restart OK - and then back to x1.5 - restart ... now it's OK for this medium size.
The resolution runs at the maximum of the screen : 2736 x 1824.
I'll tell later about my progress on the patched kernel for intel-ipts !

By the way, I'll take any advice about the warnings I get when Mageia is launching after grub2 boots on it ...
;)
See you soon !
