Downgrade xorg (Done)

Postby pete910 » Dec 3rd, '16, 16:17

As title, anyway to downgrade xorg from 1.19 ?

Nvidia's drivers are shockingly bad. Their 375.20 are unusable atm on pascal, Previous drivers want great but usable-ish

Unfortunately, previous drivers wont work with xorg 1.19.

Downgrade to what? Unless you installed testing packages, cauldron release repos only contain the most recent versions of packages, the previous ones are always being replaced.
Unless you have all of the older versions locally - then the easiest way would probably be to create a minimal installation without X, then do urpmi task-x11 and note down which packages are going to be installed, and then add those including the version that you want to downgrade _to_ to an urpmi --downgrade.

Otherwise you would need to rebuild all the necessary packages from src.rpms.

Damn,

That's what I thought, It's why I asked in case there was maybe a repo or two that may contain some previous versions.

It's looking like a downgrade to mageia 5 or hope they release a driver fix, The current driver(375.20) wont even build on 4.8.11.3 . not tried 4.8.12 that's just installed.

Cheers dok.

You're directly using the nvidia driver? How big is the version difference from the nvidia one vs. the mga6 nvidia packages in the repos, and what card do you use? GTX-1080 ?

Yes the 1080 was on a 290x till about 6 weeks ago. Nothing but pain! Should have stayed with AMD and the oss driver.

The driver I am using is via the repo

Code: Select all
nvidia-current-cuda-opencl-375.20-1.mga6.nonfree
nvidia-current-doc-html-375.20-1.mga6.nonfree
dkms-nvidia-current-375.20-1.mga6.nonfree
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-375.20-1.mga6.nonfree

Even Nvidia has recommended downgrading

It does work compile with the last kernel though (4.8.12)
