[SOLVED] gvfs-mtp on classic installation of mageia 5

Postby drynkins » Aug 27th, '16, 14:56

Guys, when doing classic installation of mageia 5 64 bits are there any desktop environments that come with gvfs-mtp preinstalled? Is there a way to see? Apparently xfce does not. I want to make mageia my default distro of choice for recommending to new users, but being able to plug in your android phone right away would be a neat option to have when showing it off. Thanks in advance

It's installed by gvfs automatically no need to manually install it.

Strange, had to install it manually today on a fresh install. Did it prior to post-install (meaning on a first boot) update though ( did not do online update during the os-installation neither), could that be the reason?

Depending on your desktop environment, you don't need gvfs-mtp at all.
Check e.g. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/File_transfe ... id_devices

Thanks for the answer! Yeah… i was basically referring to this wiki page, specifically to the part where it states "Mageia-5 installs the packages that implement the MTP protocol at system generation, no particular action is necessary. SOMETIMES it is possible that it doesnt install it automatically, then you have to install the package "gvfs-mtp" manually from the Mageia repository". So i wondered if it is well-known what are the cases when yo do or do not need to manually install that. But youjre right, Will look into other options as well
