[SOLVED]Can't install anything or boot live USB stick on HP

Postby DiBosco » Jul 14th, '16, 17:31

Folks,

I've got an HP Envy Laptop with an AMD processor and Radeon graphics card that I cannot get anything at all to load or boot from.

I've tried the UEFI DVD, the UEFI Live DVD and the old fashioned Live CD all on USB sticks (there is no optical drive).

I either get it crashing and saying "fixing recursive problem reboot is needed" (rebooting doesn't help) or it just gets stuck saying "A start job is running for initializ...(RAID, LMV etc)" and "A start job is rfor udev"

Sometimes when I install from the full DVD, I get to the point where you set up the disk portioning and it just freezes.

Sometimes it goes weird and gives a call trace that very slowly increases in length.

Is this possibly something to do with the graphics card? I've never had a machine with anything but nvidia or Intel before.

Can anyone suggest anything else I might be able to do please? Just ask if there's more info I can give.

Many thanks!

Weird. I finally got it to install by not using the whole of the 2TB HDD. I'll hopefully be able to resize it once I've booted for the first time.

This limit might be from MBR "formated" discs. If you want to address more than 2TB in a single partition you need to do GPT partitioning.
