Trying out Mageia

Postby TingisBob » Apr 20th, '16, 22:05

I am running a new HP with AMD A10 Extreme Edition Radeon R8,4C+8G 2.00 GHz
I burned the iso file onto a DVD and tried running it. The mageia flash page shows up but then when it gets to the dots over the icon in the name, it quits after the second dot. Where do I turn next?

Hi there, which image did you use, can you please mention the full filename? And did you check the md5sum?

Also what flash page do you mean, are you referring to the bootsplash during bootup? You can simply press Esc there to see the messages scrolling by in the background, where does it stop, what are the last lines?
Can you press Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to a text login at that point?

The file name is: Mageia-5-LiveDVD-KDE4-x86_64-DVD. I down loaded it from the Mageia website. The rest I will try and let you know.

The flash page would be the bootsplash during boot up. If I wait till the DVD drive stops spinning, Esc does not work the last two lines that I get read:
Starting update UTMP about system runlevel changes
Stared updates UTMP about system runlevel changes

Looking forward to getting Mageia running and checked out. By the way what does Mageia mean?

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that the Ctrl+Alt+F2 does not work.

You didn't mention yet if you checked your downloaded image against the checksum mentioned on the download page, to ensure your download didn't get corrupted ...

And you could check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Err ... d_graphics to select a different graphics driver to see if that changes anything.

You are right. To be honest I do not know how to do it. I have downloaded the file 3 times burned the iso and then tried to start the OS severall times each it stalled at the same place each time.

Actually it's pretty easy, on the download page for your image, e.g. https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/ ... 64-DVD.iso there are md5sums listed, those are the checksums.
Usually most burning programs allow to check the md5sum of the file you have against one that you can specify, which is the one on the website in that case.
