[Solved] KDE Freezes after login to Mageia 5

Hello,

Intro: I have been using Mageia for a bit over a month, and it has been amazing. I am a beginner in linux. My laptop is a Intel i3, with 2 GB RAM.


Yesterday, while using Mageia, KDE froze. I could only move the cursor, but couldn’t click on anything. So, I went for a hard shutdown. When I tried to reboot, it went into “emergency mode”. I tried rebooting a few times, entered the mageia disk and tried to rescue the system and then gave up. I installed mageia again (formatting only the root partition).

Everything was fine yesterday after that, but today when I try to login to mageia, kde freezes after a few seconds after showing me a glimpse of my desktop. It’s the exact same thing here again – everything’s frozen, only the cursor moves.

So… what do I do? Format all partitions and start from scratch? Is there any other possible option?

** If I check “failsafe” in the login-in screen, I start with a terminal with which I can open Dolphin, and other applications as needed with no issues.

Hello rafeemostafa,
You don't tell much about your hardware, are you using the Intel i3 IGP or another graphic card? Which driver?
2GB is low for KDE + shared memory for the Intel Graphics. Are 3D effects enable?
You could try a lighter DE.

Thanks for the reply. I now see that I haven't really given any information on my hardware or drivers. I'm sorry about that.

KDE works fine on my computer. I'm not sure exactly what happened then, but I went for a clean re-install and things are fine now.
