[SOLVED] KDE Login Error - Unable to fetch item from backend

Postby yankee495 » Oct 31st, '12, 03:04

Hi,

Mageia installed beautifully but had a couple of small errors that were hard to track down so I thought I'd post them to help others.

I googled this and came up with all kinds of stuff but my problem was my last search folder in Kmail. I believe I had deleted or moved one of the emails that I searched for and right after logging into KDE it (Akonadi) couldn't find that email. Deleting the last search folder in Kmail made the error go away. This does not actually delete the emails, just the last search folder.

It ran fine but the error was annoying.

Actually kmail has no influence on boot process, this is just a coincidence.

Dok,

Akonadi seems to be trying to access a deleted or moved email. To reproduce, do a search in the inbox. Delete or move one of the search result emails (from the inbox). Use Akondai tray to stop Akonadi, and then restart Akondai. You should get the error. Delete the search result folder and do it again, no error.

Akondai is trying to do something at boot right at the start of the desktop displaying and it gives this error if you have deleted an email you searched for before rebooting.

The boot process, and the process after login i.e. when the desktop environment starts are two different things.
Thats why i said Akonadi has no influence on the boot process.

Yeah, that is true. You can boot to the console. I guess I should have put right after KDE login but many people don't know that or consider it booting to the desktop...like Windows. In any case it is a minor glitch without a good explanation in the error message that can be annoying and make you wonder what is wrong.

I think the posts to this topic may provide a great work around for my system, even four years after the initial post. Thank you one and all.

I only want to record a little more detail of the events in KMail on my system. KMail had a higher level folder called "Search", and a lower level folder called "last search".

KMail will not let you delete the emails in the "last search" folder, as I expected.
KMail will let you select the "last search" folder, right click, and delete the folder. It warns you that none of the email messages will be deleted, since they are still in their original folders. That was OK, and encouraging that I was not going to lose messages. I told KMail to go ahead and delete the folder.

Then, my British friends would have said that KMail "fell over". The display of folders went mostly blank, displaying only a couple of folders. And somewhere in the process of terminating KMail, I saw a message that talked about a segmentation fault happening. I apologize to anyone wanting more details. Unless someone can point me at the "right" log file where those details might have been saved, that is in the dirty bit bucket.

I restarted KMail, and it looks to be running better.

On second thought, it might have been better for me to just search for a message with a subject line containing a random character string. Then the last search folder will become empty, without deleting the folder.
