Is Mageia 5 compatible with Intel Core i7-4790K Devil's Canyon ?

I am building a "near" gaming PC and want to make sure I'm not going to run into "gotchas".

Thank in advance

it runs flawlessly on i3 and i5 CPU here; why shouldn't it run on i7. Try a live-DVD and see what happens. :)
for windows problems reboot; for linux problems be root

My guess is the same, I just was looking to verify it before I bought a $400 processor, thanks.

FWIW, my laptop has:
CPU~Quad core Intel Core i7-4710HQ (-HT-MCP-) clocked at Min:2402.441Mhz Max:2500.097Mhz
on board. And runs Mageia 5 like anyone would wish.

Definitely, that's what I'm using. Usually there is no special support needed for processor.

Although if you want to use the integrated graphics, you would need to update the kernel, see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5_Err ... ed_systems

Thank everyone!!! I pulled the trigger on the order.
So we'll see what happens, I didn't order a graphics card and will see if there is a problem with the integrated graphics.

As a general rule, CPU compatibility with (any) linux is rarely the issue. All 500 of the top 500 supercomputers run linux.

What can be problematic is certain aspects / features of motherboards and other hardware.

Nowadays, most BIOSes can be updated through a specific USB port with a stick, onto which the firmware file has to be downloaded (using any machine connected to the internet).

My advice: if you can, see if there's a motherboard that got tested with linux. I chose my motherboard based on the fact the cpu manufacturer (AMD in my case) had sent a system to Phoronix for testing with one of the two motherboards that I had in my final selection.

Just an update....
I've installed Mageia 5 on the new PC (this was an ISO from 5-6 months ago).
It appears that everything is working!!! I'm still playing with it but so far I'm past the potentially big issues.
Did a mass update last night and everything still works.
Onboard HDMI and VGA are working (didn't test the DVI).
Killer E2200 gaming networking platform (NIC) is working.

System is:
1 x Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard
1 x Thermaltake Chaser A71 ATX full tower
2 x 8GB G.SKILL DDR3 2133
1 x Corsair RM750X power supply
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K Quad Core 4.0 GHZ processor
1 x LG Internal 24x Super Multi with M-DISC Support SATA
1 x SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 256GB SATA III 3-D SSD
1 x Hitachi GST Ultrastar 1TB 7200 RPM
