Nevermind, fixed by installing package sazanami-mincho-fonts

So shouldn't that be included by default?

Bumping this, since I have the same problem. Running Mageia 5 with KDE.

Japanese text works in Firefox, but it is not scalable, ie. it remains the same tiny size when I zoom in on the web page.
I have no idea what to do, please help.

Some background: did you add "Japanese" and "Korean" as a language option during your original install?

Best option regarding fonts not scaling in Firefox when zoomed would be to create a bug report: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly.
Do supply information that you are able, but do not worry if some information is beyond your ability to supply.
Someone will contact you regarding your report.

Please do not abandon the report as you are in the best position assist the person(s) assigned to fixing the issue for you.

Also put a link to the report in this thread.

What language did you select in http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/localedrake.html ?

English... which was an error, and I've changed it to Danish now... That shouldn't have anything to do with being able to display non-latin languages, should it?

Well, I'd say not everybody needs japanese or korean fonts installed by default, so I'd say this should primarily be tied to the language selection, IMHO.
(At least I think that should install necessary fonts, not sure if it actually does ...)

Uhhh... okaaay.... That's a funny philosophy.... which Mageia would be the only one to have, because asian languages works perfectly in all other distributions... And even then it's badly handled here, since there is no easy way to add asian languages, I had to google my way around for a long time to find an old forum post mentioning that package. Which by the way is a cursive font so it's kinda hard to read, but what else can I do.

Well, that was my personal opinion. If you say it works on other distros by default, then we should maybe install the necessary fonts by default.
You could report that as an enhancement request, after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

FWIW some other font packages that might help are either google-droid-sans-fonts, fonts-ttf-chinese-opendesktop, fonts-ttf-japanese

It may also be the case of an unwanted font that is installed already that conflicts, see e.g. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=751

Can you post the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa|sort|grep font

and a link to an example webpage which shows the problem, to more easily by able to reproduce this?

I didn't check any other webpages but one (wanikani.com, requires login) before I installed the sazanami font, so maybe other pages will work. But here's one I guess http://info.japantimes.co.jp/tsuhon2016/

Hmmm, I didn't install any specific japanese fonts, only google-droid* font packages and it looks fine here. Maybe we should add those to our default font selection, but that should be discussed first.

Sure, if those google fonts can fix it, it would be great if those were included by default.
