[SOLVED] Crossover 15 for Mageia 5

Postby jbarntt56 » Feb 26th, '16, 07:13

I have a fully updated Mageia 5 install, and would like to install Crossover, a commercial version of Wine. The Crossover website lists these dependencies, which I don't have:

gtk2
python-gtk2
X.org with XRender and GCX support

I checked the first two using rpm -q <package_name>

Using the GUI add/remove software, I couldn't find the first two packages.

I have no clue as to check for the X.org dependencies.

Any help, much appreciated. I would like to install Crossover.

TIA,

jbarntt56

The first two should be

gtk+2.0
pygtk2.0

X should already be installed, otherwise you wouldn't have a graphical display. Did you try yet to install Crossover, if so, what is the result?

Hi Dok,

I checked for the proper spellings and they are installed.

I did install Crossover, but when I ran it I got a msg. saying "Needs to install missing packages as root: sh -c /usr/sbin/urpmi nss_mdns"
I enter my sudo password, and am told the requested package is already installed. I failed to notice that indeed the CO interface came up,
it was a pop under window.

I installed Notepad++, and was able to create a desktop launcher, and it appears to work fine. It was the fact that CO wanted to install nss_mdns, when it was already installed that confused me. Perhaps the dir where nss_mdns is installed is not in my path? At worst a minor annoyance, but would like to resolve it. I'm
not sure how to find the path to nss_mdns so I can add it to the path, if that is the issue. Any help, much appreciated.

FYI - I used Notepad++ as a test because I figured it would work well under Crossover, or WINE for that matter.

Thank you for help,

Well, you would have to ask CodeWeavers how to check for that package.

Here's how you can query it remotely against the enabled repositories with urpmi, which package provides the facility 'nss_mdns'
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia5]─[11:40:02]─[~] urpmq --whatprovides nss_mdns
lib64nss-mdns2

And the same against the rpm database of locally installed packages
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia5]─[11:40:13]─[~] rpm -q --whatprovides nss_mdns
lib64nss-mdns2-0.10-15.mga5

I also have this issue. The reason is that Crossover still has only a 32 bit package. And as Crossover is still 32 bit it checks for missing dependencies only in 32 bit packages. In fact the 64 package is installed so you have to do nothing.

Thanks guys,

Looks like actionh23r has the answer: Ignore the warning when on a x64 system.

I installed a Windows game, Call of Atlantis, and it runs fine. Not exactly a AAA game, but I'm a casual gamer, so a good enough test.

I'm marking this solved, because it does seem to work, even though Crossover does throw a spurious error message.

Thanks Dok, and thanks Action.
