[SOLVED]cannot connect to X server :0 when launching as root

My OS is further deteriorating! I'm using Mageia 5 and am now having the following issue as well as being unable to run MCC.

I have to launch Cutecom as root because it will not connect toi /dev/ttyACM devices as user. I've spent hours trying to fix this to no avail, so now I just run Cutecom as root.

However, when I try to launch it I get this error:

No protocol specified
cutecom: cannot connect to X server :0

I've Google it and there are plenty of similar-ish problems, but no-one seems to have a fix for it, or it doesn't help in this instance.

Anyone seen this and able to help please?

Finally found a solution when stopped looking for Mageia problems and just went for general problems:

xhost +local:root

This just makes it work for some reason. I can also launch mcc GUI now. Weird shit! Anyway, hopefully this might help others with a similar issue.
