[SOLVED] Wireless keyboard advise

Postby evaldas » Sep 24th, '15, 17:44

hello,

I am considering to buy wireless keyboard and mouse for my Mageia 5 desktop.
Is there any requirements for these devices or they all are just plug and play? In my country Logitech and Hama brands are available and I am considering to buy 2.4 GHz with single USB dongle

Some time ago I used Logitech Wireless Combo MK220 Black (keyboard + mouse). It worked out of box in Mageia. Now I use wireless keyboard with touchpad (noname-device from China), it works out of box in Mageia too.
I think most of popular models will works out of box.

As such devices do not require a driver, it doesn't matter. But I'd try to avoid bluetooth ones, as those often face reconnection issues, there are some forum threads for such issues.

I grabbed a cheap M$ KB and mouse and it's worked on everything. I assume it's not bluetooth, it came with a little usb dongle, and I never have disconnect or connection issues.

It even works in BIOS/UEFI? on an ASROCK motherboard.

They are all pretty much plug and play. The only thing you may have problems with is all the extra multimedia or quicklaunch keys or extra mouse buttons. You can usually get them to work with a little fiddling.

i just got logitechs two top mouse and keyboards, both wireless, but very expensive.

but they work just great.

the mouse is the

Logitech MX Anywhere 2 - Mobile Wireless Mouse for Windows and Mac £61 (this is a rechargeable mouse)

the keyboard is the

Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 - UK layout £54 (this is charged by the light in the room, so has no batteries to speak of (it does have a tiny rechargeable battery that keeps it working in the dark for upto 3 months)

these both work fine under mageia 5 , although not every function button combination works, much like the issues we see on some laptops.

Do you want to change the language or your keyboard layout? You can do the latter from MCC: http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/ ... drake.html
