Mageia 5 - Wireless not working

Mageia 5 - Wireless not working

Postby brogers » Sep 24th, '15, 16:55

Hello

I have an older laptop that I just installed [actually upgraded to] Mageia 5.
As with my older version the wireless does not work -- it cannot even see the list of available networks.

Previously I followed these instructions at this url

wiki.mandriva.com/en/Installing_wireless_network_cards_using_the_b43_driver#Installing_the_firmware_on_Mandriva_Linux_2011_or_higher

But that link does not appear to exist any more.
Is there a recent version of that document available.

Well, most of those instructions do not apply anymore, as we deliver the open firmware for the free driver already, package is called b43-openfwwf
See also the second-to-last bullet at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Setup_wirele ... ic_drivers and the linked forum thread.

FWIW, does your problem still persist?

Please at least provide the following information:
Which desktop environment are you using? Do you use net_applet or NetworkManager?
And please provide the output of the following commands:

Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -ie net -e wpa

and, as root:
Code: Select all
ifconfig -a
rfkill list all
systemctl status network.service -a
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "fw|firmware|iwl|wifi|wire|80211"

this is what I have: ssb : Broadcom Corporation|BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:14e4 device:432b subv:106b subd:008d) (rev: 01)

How do I install the b43 drivers?

Thanks

According to https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use ... f_hardware this is only partially supported by the free b43 driver.
To use the b43 driver, you might need to blacklist at least ssb, this is explained in the Mandriva wiki you linked to already or at http://linuxwireless.sipsolutions.net/e ... en_drivers
So as root use
Code: Select all
echo "blacklist ssb" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-mga.conf
and then reboot, b43 should be automatically loaded then.
