Hi everyone. Another new user :-)

I've been messing about with Linux for a long time now, but did not convert fully away from Windows until I retired four years ago. I had to use Windows at work, although they did experiment a little with OpenOffice for a while. I started with Linux in the days of Mandrake, and then later the early versions of Ubuntu, Dapper Drake etc. (what year was that?). I tried Mandriva a long time ago, but didn't get on well with it. I never really got going properly though, until Ubuntu matured a bit, and before the advent of their horrible new replacement for gnome. I now run mainly Mint with the Cinnamon desktop, which I like.
I have never really given KDE a fair chance, so I'm here now to try it out. I have an old laptop, Dell Latitude D630 which has Mint, Peppermint and WinXP on it. WinXP is only there for some legacy hardware that needs Windows 95 emulation to work properly. I now have Mageia5 KDE on it, and hope to give it a fair try.

Hello,

New user since last week-end of Mageia, it's a far long time I never returned on Linux system because notably my favorites games not being available ... (who says Dota ? 8-) )

Anyway, looking for my daugther the Doudoulinux distro, I thought that her dad needs to be back also on Linux... After finding nice reviews on Mageia community and that Mageia 5 was just released, I jumped in !

So far, I'm so impressed and pleased ! Far superior and far faster than Win... and wait ! wow ? Steam and Dota 2 available and working !

Ok let's go folks ! 8-)

As a startup creator in addition to my job, my main tools are FF, Filezilla, ssh, notepad++ (which is replaced in Mageia by Sublime text), mariaDB / Apache & phpMyAdmin.

I would be pleased to help on php programming in case other community members have questions related to this topics since I now have 2 software under my hands.

Cheers,
Setanta

Wonderful to hear about your first experiences with Mageia after all these years.

Well, every team will be happy for contributors :)

For my particular comment I was more referring to contributing as packager to the Mageia php RPM packages,
providing updates and bugfixes and such. See e.g. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Becoming_a_Mageia_Packager

I've been a long time Mandrake/Mandriva and now Mageia user, and Linux user & administrator for nearly 20 years. I have to say that Mageia 5 so far is the best desktop distro I have ever used. I have it installed on over 10 machines & laptops currently, and I haven't had a single problem (unlike most distros where there are always a few 'annoyances' you have to deal with). Mageia 5 just works. This is what I have always envisioned a solid working distro would be like. It took close to 20 years for me to find one, but it was well worth the wait!

So I just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work and putting together what is probably the best distribution out there!

Just great to hear about experiences so far.

And of course brap999, a very warm welcome to Mageia!!!! :)

I've been using Linux for the past few years (mostly Mint and Ubuntu). After trying Mageia the past few weeks, I have to say that this is definitely a great distro! It's easy to live with and stable.

At this point, do you need additional English-language documentation people or newbie QA team members?

Hi Larry, Welcome aboard.

QA will always need more hands, and the doc team has a mountain of work to get through constantly also. I'm on doc team, and find them helpful and flexible to suit my real world.

Greetings Everyone!

I am from Rochester, New York in the United States. I had a brief encounter with Linux in 1999, but didn't became a regular user until 2005 when I was introduced to Ubuntu. I have installed and used many Linux distributions over the years. I have decided that I want a true community-driven Linux distribution. I am a father of three, a full-time student, an amateur artist and a geek who would like to participate in the Mageia community and possibly contribute to the project in some capacity.

Cheers,
Sean Vhloche

Hello to Mageia forums. I'm very new to Mageia as I only installed yesterday. Having said that I'm not new to Linux having been a user for 10 years now. In fact don't tell anyone, yours is not the only distro I have!! Over several machines I have openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Arch and .....Windows... Despite the last one I am a serious Linux advocate and look forward to learning this new (for me) distro.

As a amateur artist, I am trying to broaden my horizons by dipping my paint brushes into digital art and really want to get Krita to work for me. Other than that my hobbies include computing (of course), music, plastic model making and sci-fi (reading and watching). I have a passion for science and love nothing more than a peaceful stroll in the countryside or by the sea.

I am joining your forum as I think that this is an important and integral part of any distro. I look forward to exploring and learning and hopefully able to help others as time goes on. So far I am liking Mageia and am using the kde desktop.
