Core release?

Postby Weatherlawyer » Mar 20th, '15, 22:16

I am just installing the latest greatest ad getting updates. I was asked to insert a disc with core release or core utilities on it. Apparently that isn't the ISO I burnd. Can someone explain (in words larger than .three letters) just exactly what it is I lack?

It looks like your system requires your cd or dvd as a media for install or update.
It is also possible that the disc you have has just failed- especially common if a rw type.
if you are attempting updates, you should not require cdrom media core release, and non-free release.

go to Mageia Control Centre
software management tab: click on the last item: configure media sources for install and update
make sure the cd-rom options are unchecked and save.

I hope that is the info you require as it was unclear from your request,

If your bandwidth is limited, re-enable core relaese and non-free release after your update if the media is good, as the media, if the full dvd, has all the uninstalled software on it if you want to try other non-installed programs.

I got it to do something without that disc. I will get that stuff from the Mageia Control Centre though. Thank you. It may come in handy for next time. (I wasn't quick enough to note the message it gave or I was too impatient and clicked on something else.) The key to enjoying a Linux distro is not to be afraid of mucking it up. You can always get another go.
