Admin. Authentication rejected [Solved}

I'm "distro shopping" with Mageia and have installed it to virtualbox. All is well except when I try to access the Control Center I get a dialog requesting my administrator password however it will not recognize it! I've tried everything I can think of, including a re-install but to no avail. During setup I only used one, very simple password.

I'd really like to see what I can do with Mageia but. . .

Suggestions? Thanx.

How do you exactly run the control center? Starting it via the menu? Via command line?
Also, what particular version and flavour of Mageia did you test and using what desktop environment? LiveCD, DVD, install ... KDE, GNOME, ... ?

So many questions!

I installed from the live CD iso downloaded to my computer and installed to Virtualbox. I'm trying the latest version, 4.1 GNOME 64bit and and accessing from the menu/favorites bar.
The CC opens but when I click on the Programs icon the dialog box pops up and doesn't recognize me.

During setup you should have provided two passwords, one for the root account and one for your user - although the latter is not mandatory.

If you start a terminal, and enter

su -

then press enter and input the password you have, does it accept your password and do you get a prompt?

Thanx doktor, I should have thought of that. . .it accepted me in the terminal but still not via dialog

So, so your root password is working. Can you run drakconf as root from the terminal?
And please show the output of

Apart from that, are there any other adjustments that you made? You added your normal user to the wheel group maybe?

Well, drakconf as root opened up the Control Center nice as could be! I was able to run updates and add Cinnamon (I really dislike GNOME). Now when I click the icon and the password dialog comes up it accepts my password and all is well.

The very first thing I did when I finished the initial install was try to go to the Control Center so I didn't have a chance to change anything prior to the problem. The only possible thing I did was use the same password for root and my user. . .but I'm guessing that's unlikely to cause a problem.

I'm not sure if this is exactly solved because I have no idea why the initial install didn't recognize me. Was it a glitch solved by being able to run updates?

BTW- I kinda like Mageia now that I can play with it. I still have a lot to learn but the distro isn't "getting in the way". . .I'm looking forward to 5.0, it could be my new "keeper"!

Nope, should't cause any problem. Even using an empty password/no password for the user should be no issue.
