[UEFI] Unable to boot Mageia 4.1 from USB - Black Screen

Postby ch0sen » Dec 5th, '14, 19:02

Hello,

I set up an usb stick with LiLi (Linux Live) with Windows.
Im able to get the boot menu running - but unfortunately every option I take, will result in a black screen.

My system is based on UEFI and implements nvidia optimus technology
What I've tried so far:
I edited the menu file and added following options at the end of the boot live option: rd.blacklist=nouveau rd.blacklist=nvidia xdriver=intel
[Source: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Err ... e_CD.2FDVD ]

Neither hitting escape nor [ Alt + Ctrl + 2x BS ] is affecting the black screen.
Has anyone an idea?

Thanks so far!

You have two options: For real UEFI boot, have a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/UEFI_how-to

For classic BIOS boot, check https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation ... h_drive.3F

@doktor5000 : as I read it, he's already got as far as the boot menu.

@chOsen : Does the black screen occur immediately after you select an item from the boot menu, or do you get anything appearing on the display first? Have you tried the xdriver=vesa option?

Hey, thanks for your reply!
The black screen appears immediately after I choose an option. I tried to change the option xdriver=intel to xdriver=vesa - but that doesnt change anything :(.

Yes, but in some cases you won't get further then he bootloader, hence the hint for the known good media dump procedures.

For the issues with boot options, it would help if we get to know what hardware is being used ;)

Okay.
What Mageia live media did you use exactly, and did you check the md5sum?

If the md5sum is okay, please try to redo your boot media with one of the programs listed in https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation ... h_drive.3F or if you want to do it in Windows, check also https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Dump_Mageia_ ... tive_tools

Seems to me like LiLi (Linux Live) is messing up the image on the flash stick.
