4.1 update doesn allow selection of apps [SOLVED]

Postby rcdawson » Nov 3rd, '14, 03:13

I installed 4.1 without installing updates during installation. Updating required a couple of passes with the update program, but, after apparently updating some items, it presents the following message:

Code: Select all

Rebooting and trying again produced the same result Finally, I reinstalled, this time downloading updates during installation. Again, the first update I believe successfuly updated rpmdrake, and perhaps updated the kernel, I'm not sure about the kernel, the the next update attempt resulted in the same long list of programs that could not be selected for update. Any ideas before I give up on this distribution?

Thank you

My system, which I believe is fully up to date, lists libkdcraw.so.22. Are you sure you are using 4.1 and not cooker?

Also, how did you do the updates? Someplace on this board is a post I put up when moving from Mageia 3 to Mageia 4, where I copied/pasted a line from the Mageia howto without noticing that it was just a template and I needed to fill in something myself, and the result was that I got the cooker packages rather than the Mageia 4 packages. Something like that might have happened to you.

I did report it as a bug, but who knows if it has been fixed...

Yes, this belongs to the recent KDE 4.12.5 update.
Code: Select all

@rcdawson:
Please show the output of the following commands:

My system has not been notified of this update, and I appear to be using the same mirrors as OP. Does this suggest that the mirrors don't have the complete update?

@rcdawson
You have /core/release/debug enabled. You need /core/release. Disable the debug source and enable /core/release, in MCC > Software Management > Configure media sources...
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/4/en/content/ ... media.html

@ jiml8
According to:
http://mirrors.mageia.org/status
That mirror is up-to-date.

What happens if you select "Update your system" in MCC > Software Management?

They should since more then 3 days. Example: http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/distr ... x86_64.rpm

Short simplified check shows 825 packages in total in that repo alone:
Code: Select all
┌─[doktor5000@Mageia4]─[19:13:30]─[~]
└──╼ curl http://mirror.easthsia.com/mageia/distrib/4/x86_64/media/core/updates/ | grep '4.12.5' | wc -l

I disabled Core Updates Debug and enabled Core Updates. Same result as far as updating goes. Still refuses to allow selection of the updates listed above.

Interestingly, I now note that dolphin will not start. Hadn't tried it before. It is on the list of updates. On the other hand, digicam, which is also on the list of updates, started OK.

Thank you for your time and help so far.

You need to be the root user to run the urpmi command. In the terminal window, type
Code: Select all
su

and enter your root password when prompted for a password. Once you're done, type
Code: Select all
exit

to switch back to your normal user ID.

(apologies if this is telling you things you already know)

You're still missing the repo Core Release.

That did it! Resolved. Once I got the core release in there everything worked as it should. I don't know just how that got disabled, but probably operator error. Thank you for your patience as well as your expertise!.
