For the ssh configs, you should probably change /etc/ssh/sshd_config and /etc/ssh/sshd_config~ also to 0600 so nobody other then root can read them.

For the issue about MCC, please create a separate thread for that one, after having a look through the previous threads for this issue:

And once again, I'll recommend reinstalling from scratch after backing up your imporant files. Currently your system is in a pretty inconsistent state.
For such a long-grown system, and per the level of system knowlegde that I'd rate you based on this thread (no offense!) it's probably
much less hassle and much less time wasted installing from scratch again and then putting your important files back.

To my surprise, the MCC issue disappeard now.
I changed back to GDM to verify, and, yes, using GDM both problems still exists.

To summerize, switching to KDM solved both problems and am I now happy.
You are right in assessing my knowledge. My femiliarity in Linux is quite poor. Yet, for my needs, and with the community help, I get my jobs done even though some of which are not very simple.

Your "Fresh install" advice will be posponed up until I'll replace the box with a new one, not to far from today.
