AVM FritzUSB Wlan adapter not recognized any more

Postby vincentm77 » Oct 1st, '14, 17:56

Hi everyone,
I use an AVM Frtiz USB wlan adapter (dongle) to connect my laptop (Lenovo B5400, Mageia4) to the internet...It used to be perfectly recognized by the system.

After the latest updates (in the last days), my laptop doesn t recognized the AVM Frtiz USB wlan adapter any longer... but now recognizes the RTL8723BE wlan adapter built in the laptop (which however still doesn t work)...

Something must have gone wrong with the latest updates.

Why did you create a new thread, and don't continue in viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8409 ?

Ahh, sorry got it mixed up  - in the older thread the AVM adapter was your fallback, and that's broken now, presumably by updates, correct?

Can you please show the output of
Code: Select all
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -ie net -e wpa

and, as root:
Code: Select all
ifconfig -a
journalctl -b -u network --no-pager -a
systemctl status network.service -a
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "fw|firmware|iwl|wifi|wire|80211|ath9k"

The firmware seems to be missing, which is provided by kernel-firmware-nonfree
Can you show the output of
Code: Select all
ll /lib/firmware/htc_9271.fw

[SOLVED] Re: AVM FritzUSB Wlan adapter not recognized any mo

Postby vincentm77 » Oct 8th, '14, 21:38

Thank You very much Doktor, you found the problem

Before installing kernel-firmware-nonfree (the version released in August 2014)

[root@localhost vincent]# ll /lib/firmware/htc_9271.fw
Code: Select all
ls: cannot access /lib/firmware/htc_9271.fw: No such file or directo11ry

After installing the firmware:

[vincent@localhost ~]$ ll /lib/firmware/htc_9271.fw
Code: Select all
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 51272 Aug 28 16:51 /lib/firmware/htc_9271.fw

Now the Fritz wlan usb adapter works... Thanks a lot.
The firmware must have been uninstalled during one of the latest update.0

Best regards
Vincent

It shouldn't have been ... maybe you sometime said yes to the infamous question about removing orphaned packages?

If not, I can show you how to find out when it was removed and maybe even why.

Of course you might be right about the infamous question.

Sure, I would be interested in finding out when the package was removed and why.

Okay, so first find out the date when it was installed or removed:
Code: Select all
sudo journalctl -a | grep -F '[RPM]' | grep firmware

Warning: This might take quite some time, as it will go through complete journal since your box was installed.
