[SOLVED] Funny thing with installed Mageia 4.1

Postby turboscrew » Aug 19th, '14, 13:42

Not so long ago I wondered about a "funny thing with LiveDVD.
No something of a similar nature happened with the same Mageia, but installed on HD:
The taskbar (or whatchacallit) was dead. No response of any sort. The icons on the desktop worked fine.
I have heard some squeky sounds that I think comes from the HD, but could that be the cause?

The squeky sound probably didn't come up with the older Mint-installation, because I had set the hard disks to run down
after (was it?) half an hour of idling.

On the other hand, I guess DVD had nothing to do with the HD...

Ideas, anyone?
Has there been issues with, say Intel i3? Or B75 chipset?

KDE. I think it's considered more-or-less the default.
(I don't want to use very exotic configurations, because if something is wrong, there's nobody that can help).

You could try resetting KDE.

mv ~/.kde4 ~/.kde4.old

Log off and log back in and all the KDE settings will be reset.

You can always get the settings back as you've only moved the directory, not deleted it.

Couldn't do that: the disk broke. That may explain...
And just that I got Mageia installed...
Got to get a new disk before "continuing the excercise".

I think I'll get smartmontools installed then.

Well, you mentioned the disk is broken, so for the scope of this thread this issue is done. Or, asked the other way around, how could we help you fix a broken disk, meaning physically defective?

Not at all, but let's see how it works when I get the disk replaces and the old disk stuff transferred to the new disk.
Then again, if I still run into peculiarities, I can open a new thread.
