[SOLVED] Black screen trying to boot to mageia4

Postby targaeryan » Jul 9th, '14, 20:40

Hi

Im new to the linux environment, and have tried mint and ubuntu so far. I wanted to try out mageia so i installed it alongside windows 7 from USB drive. All went well. Now it boots to the screen with the options to boot to mageia or windows. When i try to boot to mageia theres only a black screen. I waited for about 10 mins with no change. Even booting to safe mode results in black screen. It boots to windows fine. Im using a DELL INSPIRON 14R with ATI RADEON graphic card.

Any help would be apreciated!

EDIT1: Ok.. after booting to windows, i restarted and tried booting to mageia again and this time it did. But it was stuck at the mageia lockscreen with no option to login. then it went to black screen showing "UVD failure etc etc". so i rebooted and tried booting again i got black screen as before.. i may need to boot to windows to get mageia to boot.

hi

this usually means that the Magiea did not select the correct video driver for your unit.
If you choose to run the install again, when prompted, un-select formatting of any partitions, choose also non-free media, and the installer will quickly take you to the configure your system page as it wont need to reinstall the system.
go down the list of buttons until you find the button concerned with display options and check to see if Mageia has correctly identified your display adapter, monitor type and resolution. If Mageia has not correctly identified yours manually choose a driver / monitor etc. If your display card is not listed you can always try the generic / fallback Vesa driver
run the test to be sure.
then finish the installation and reboot.
