Problem while shutting down | Mageia 4

Postby su35 » May 16th, '14, 16:00

Hi,
I am using Mageia 4 for for about 15 days now. Everything was okay but for the last 2 days when I try to shutdown the PC it shows the Mageia splash screen and stays like that forever. This problem does not occur every time but most of the times.

I tried switching to other runlevels but all I see is a blinking cursor.

How to troubleshoot ?

When you press Esc key during that time, do you see any output?
Also, do you have any network shares mounted maybe? Also please post the output of
Code: Select all
journalctl -ab-1 | tail -500
after you tried to shutdown, and when you booted the next time - it will show the last 500 lines of log from your last boot.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

I have the same problem. If I choose shutdown or reboot in the menu, the system hangs for a looong while. Eventually it shuts down or reboots.
Following the tips from http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging/#index2h1 I tried logging the event. Below is a part of that log which could be the cause.
The funny part is. If I logout of my session and the choose shutdown in the login manager, then it shuts down fine?

Thinking it might be something with my user I also tried creating a new one. That did not change the behaviour.
I used kdm before lightdm, and that also had the same behaviour.

Re: Problem while shutting down | Mageia 4

Postby benmc » May 20th, '14, 03:19

Hi

This has happened to me also, but with a twist. If there was no login chime after login, I cannot shut down.
The machine for all intents operates correctly until I try to shutdown.
I have been able to reboot from a terminal and then I will be able to shut down from the login prompt.
