[SOLVED] Trouble getting flash player working in Firefox 29

Postby quartz » May 13th, '14, 22:25

Hi folks,

I seem to be having trouble getting flash player working. I've found the MAQueia entry on the subject, and installed the flash-player-plugin-kde packag, which seemed to work:
Code: Select all
[root@nasqueron Downloads]# urpmi flash-player-plugin-kde
The following package has to be removed for others to be upgraded:
flash-plugin-11.2.202.359-release.x86_64
 (due to conflicts with flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.356-1.mga4.nonfree.x86_64) (y/N) y
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Nonfree Updates (distrib13)")
  flash-player-plugin            11.2.202.356 1.mga4.nonfr> x86_64
  flash-player-plugin-kde        11.2.202.356 1.mga4.nonfr> x86_64
19MB of disk space will be freed.
48KB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 2 packages? (Y/n) y

The installation appeared to work, and I now have a Flash Player settings icon in the System Settings program. However, my browser(s) cannot use it. The test case is going to Google Maps and trying to use Street View, which simply produces a small pop up box stating that Flash Player of at least Version 10 is needed.
The MAQueia entry mentioned looking at "about:plugins" in firefox, which is empty (no plugins), however the Flash Player is not working in Konqueror either.

What have I done wrong?
Thanks...
Q.

Hi

Was Flash working before you upgraded?

If it was, can you reinstall the previous version?

Hi Ben

Its a fresh install of Mageia4. When I got the Street View error, I downloaded the latest version from the Adobe website - but then I found the MAQeia entry advising against that, so I replaced it with the Mageia version.

Hi

I have had problems after updating of flash and have " fixed " it by installing an earlier version.
See if yuou can find an early 11 rpm 'd version of flash and try this.
Downside is you have to make sure that the auto-updater doesnt update it.

Thanks Ben, I'll give that a try. Since a re-start though, it seems to be working in Konqueror and Firefox 26 that comes as standard with Mageia. It's only the latest Firefox 29 that it doesn't play with. Perhaps I'll have to accept its my own fault for installing something non-standard, and go back to Firefox 26.

Cheers,

Andy.

If you have it installed to /opt you need to symlink firefox plugins folder to firefox can use all installed plugins eg.flash.
ln -s /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins /opt/firefox/browser/plugins as root.
If you have it in your home you need to use as normal user ln -s /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins /home/user/firefox/browser/plugins replace that user with your real username.
