composite type changes itself

Hello everybody

In the past, I've had a strange problem several times: The graphics effects are gone. This means that 3d effects were not displayed (desktop cube, window preview in the panel, there were just the window titles). After reboot, sometimes two reboots, it worked properly again. Today I found out, that the composite type in the settings was set to XRender (instead of OpenGL3.1). After changing this to OpenGL3.1, I tried again the desktop cube. It zoomed out and there was the label "area 1" or something like that, but the cube itself wasn't there. I set the settings to OpenGL2.0, the cube worked, set to OpenGL3.1 again, and it worked! I'm not very familiar with graphics related stuff, but could it be that my graphics card is defect? I'm using a NVidia GeForce 220 (about 5years old). Perhaps I have the wrong drivers? I remember to have them accidentally deinstalled and reinstalled once. Perhaps I mixed something up... How do I display my drivers? Or might there be a program that could change my graphics settings?

By the way, I'm using KDE.

Have a nice evening

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA
rpm -qa | grep nvidia

For the graphics driver, also see http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/4/en/content/XFdrake.html
