[DONE]Firefox spell checking works on some websites but not

Firefox spell checking works on some websites but not on others

Firefox with Spell Checker add on works on some websites but not on other websites.
Works on; sites.google.com Wiki
Does not work or works intermittently on; Facebook or this forum.
But Firefox for Windows works on any website of those and others.

I have Reset Firefox.
Looked at Java but I can not tell if that is up to date on Linux.

I note that there is another support question on this issue but it did not help me.

I am using Firefox 24.4.0
Mageia 4, XFCE which is up to date as of today.

IBM xSeries 206m - Server with IDE (Linux) drive and SATA (Windows) drive, 64 Bit processor and 1GB of DRAM.
There is a BIOS warning at start up associated with the PCI soundcard.

You may want to check http://kb.mozillazine.org/Spell_checking if it helps

I learnt something I don't need the spell-check add on. But that has not resolved the difference between Linux and Windows XP.
I just tested Windows behavour. It is fine as it always has been and it does not have spell-check add on.

Windows is running Java 7.51 and Firefox 28.x

I may have found the problem. The clue is in this answer;
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/quest ... x&r=2&as=s

Right click.
I found spelling is ticked (on)
Select language. I select the one I want.

It is all working now. I think I have been through those steps before (hence my comment that the problem is intermittent). Perhaps these steps need to be done every time I turn the computer on and need Firefox spell checking. If this work-around works consistently I shall return and mark it so the problem DONE

In Firefox you may want to check about:config for the relevant settings, maybe they're simply not exposed via the GUI.
Check http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config and
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Layout.spellcheckDefault and check the related prefences at the bottom there.

Thanks Doktor.

Linux Firefox has three English languages (Canadian USA British). Most likely my act of selecting one of those which I came across on the right click sorted the problem. The GUI is a little different between Windows and Linux. Anyway I don't know why some websites worked and others did not until I did the language selection but I guess I won't know now why it all works?

The link I posted that was in pursuit of the possibility that some websites could be inhibited from spell-checking and the support question was about undoing that inhibition.

My comment was actually more about this part in particular:

If that's not the case, feel free to ignore the hint :D

Thanks ;)
