KDE fails to detect monitor

KDE fails to detect monitor

Postby kondor » Mar 23rd, '14, 04:12

Hello everyone,

I just installed Mageia 4 with three DEs i.e. KDE, MATE and XFCE.
My screen looks good in MATE and XFCE and also the monitor is detected so that I can set the proper resolution.
But when I start KDE, it does not detect my monitor. In the system settings, it shows VGA output, and not the
name of my monitor ViewSonic 17". I am not sure about sound, but login sound also does not look good.

Note: I don't have any Graphics card installed in my PC.

Thanks for any help.

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
xrandr -q
rpm -qa | grep kscreen

From your post I don't understand your issue completely. You have only one monitor attached,
which is not recognised only in KDE - so what do you see on the monitor when it's not recognised?

The monitor is recognized but not properly. I get the display with black strips on the left and right, big one on the left only in KDE.
The display does not cover the whole screen like in XFCE and MATE.

What's the native resolution of your display?

Please also attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log

The login screen is OK. When I login into KDE, the screen goes black and then I get the short display screen.

Well, the last line from the log and you xrandr output look OK, so not sure what the issue is.
Can you try again with a newly created user, does the issue occur there too?

Unrelated hint: Better use code-Tags then quote tags for long output, as code-Tags will auto-shrink - hope you see how your post changed ;)
