Mouse or Radeon driver problem on Mageia 4

Postby karpago » Feb 19th, '14, 22:52

I made a fresh install of Mageia 4 (before I was using Mageia 2 without problems) on my HP notebook G62 equipped with a hybrid Radeon HD 5470 and HD 4250.

After the installation I'm encountering problems with the mouse pointer, as if I move it to the right side of the screen, the pointer disappear and I have to move the mouse completely to the left in order to see the pointer again on the screen.

I don't understand if this problem is caused by the graphics driver or from something else. I tried all the option proposed for the graphics system by Mageia, but the only working is that for Radeon 4870 and earlier. All the other choice are not working.

Anyone with this kind of problem? Any suggestion?

Many thanks.

What monitor did you select during installation?
Also, did you add the multi-monitor-configuration? Do you have another monitor connected?

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "layout1"
Screen "screen1"
Screen "screen2" RightOf "screen1"
#Option "Xinerama"
EndSection

I'm using only the monitor of my notebook and during the installation I chose "Radeon 4870 and earlier" (the only option working, but I don't understand why not "Radeon 5000 and later") and "configure all the screen independently" and only a plug and play monitor.

I manually removed the screen2 line from the xorg.conf and I solved the problem, but I don't understand which was the error in the installation.

I also don't understand which video driver I'm using. From the output of the command you suggested me it seems that I'm using the proprietary AMD Radeon Driver for the primary HD 5xxx and the X11 open driver for the secondary 4xxx. Is it true?

The installation process for the graphic server is very confusing for my Radeon based notebook.....

Thanks

You chose "configure all the screen independently" which is for a multi-monitor setup. Better next time only keep the default options.

From the /var/log/Xorg.0.log it shows that the free radeon driver is used, not the proprietary driver.
May be interesting to know why the proprietary driver is not used.

Can you please show the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep fglrx | sort

"Configure all the screen independently" is the default option in the case of Radeon......The other option are: Xinerama, configure only hd 4250 or configure only hd 5470.

Code: Select all
$ rpm -qa | grep fglrx | sort
dkms-fglrx-13.251-1.mga4.nonfree
fglrx-control-center-13.251-1.mga4.nonfree
fglrx-kernel-3.12.13-desktop-2.mga4-13.251-12.mga4.nonfree
fglrx-kernel-3.12.8-desktop-2.mga4-13.251-9.mga4.nonfree
fglrx-kernel-3.12.9-desktop-1.mga4-13.251-10.mga4.nonfree
fglrx-kernel-desktop-latest-13.251-12.mga4.nonfree
x11-driver-video-fglrx-13.251-1.mga4.nonfree

Thanks

Probably an issue with that hybrid graphics card and the internal selection/cabling of the display.
Should be reported as a bug, after searching if it hasn't been reported yet already: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly
