Mageia 4, no signal at all to monitor on boot.

Postby mhoke63 » Feb 15th, '14, 08:45

Hello,

I've installed Mageia 4 DVD, 64 bit. I'm having an issue starting it up. During boot, I lose video. This isn't a matter of X being configured incorrectly or the run level not initiating, my monitor isn't getting any signal as the monitor itself shuts down. The monitor acts as if the computer is off, but the monitor is still turned on and it goes to sleep. I tried verbose mode and I get no information; it just goes to no signal. I have tried installing it multiple times with different video card settings. I have 2 nvidia cards in SLI. I've also tried plugging the monitor in another jack. I have 1 monitor When it asks to configure the cards separately or use Xinerama. I have a feeling it is something in the video settings, but perhaps someone on here knows what is going on. I'm unable to get any system logs as the system doesn't allow me to get to an interface. Perhaps someone here knows the correct way to configure the video settings.

Edit: I just wanted to add that I have searched for the problem and it looks like I'm the on;y one with the issue. If that isn't the case and there is another threat about it somewhere or on a wiki page, I apologize and I just ask for a link to fixed problem be posted.

System Hardware Specs:

CPU: AMD FX 8350
Video Card: Nvidia GTX660 Ti (3 GB) x2 (in SLI mode as I mentioned)
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Essence STX (mobo onboard sound disabled)
RAM: 16 GB (DDR3 1600)
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster T220

Ok, you mention monitor goes off during boot. At what point? Do you see your BIOS or UEFI screens, the Mageia bootloader, or when does it turn off?
If you boot your box with Mageia up and waiting half a minute or so, can you switch to a terminal via Ctrl+Alt+F2 to F6 ?

It goes way past that. I had Mageia 3 installed previously on this machine. My monitor doesn't shut off. There is no signal that gets sent to it shortly after Mageia starts to boot. There is nothing wrong with the hardware, it's something in Mageia. I have a feeling it has to do with the video settings in Mageia 4. I don't even know at what part it happens. It starts booting and then it is pretty sudden when the monitor stops receiving signal.

Okay, which drivers did you choose? You should be able to get basic video when selecting vesa or fbdev drivers.
May not look nice, but should at least allow you to boot.

Also, what happens when you choose the failsafe boot entry in Mageia boot menu? Does the screen blank too afterwards?

And when does it ask "to configure the cards separately or use Xinerama" ?

I am still interested in resolving this despite the late reply. However, I'm out of town and won't be able to troubleshoot until next week. So, next week I'll get you responses to your questions along with further information.
