I started out with Mandrake 9.0, then kept going with Mandriva up to 2011 on my desktop. I bought a netbook and had a lot of trouble getting Mandriva to work on it. I switched to Ubuntu for the last couple of years.
I just ordered a new Acer all in one desktop and plan to install Mageia. My netbook will be retired with a broken screen :( I'm just not a fan of Ubuntu, it works, but don't like its layout.

Hi I'm David
Been using linux since... the 90's. A desktop user and scientist.
Spent a long time using Mandrake and Mandrivia.
Then migrated to Ubuntu and Debian.
Tried Magiea 1 2 and now happy with 3.
Thanks

Brand new to this forum and this linux distro, so far everything runs very smoothly without a whole lot of "search for this or that" and finding outdated or partial answers

I have noted that there is a lot of discussion about how to install wine, but as I'm still very new with Linux in general and this distro in particular (installed today, 1-19-14), I really have no clue as to where to look for specific information as to how to do this.

Hi there :)
Simply install wine and be done with it. And be sure not to try to install wine64 manually.
See viewtopic.php?f=41&t=5082 for examples why that's a bad idea.
Apart from that I don't see much discussions about how to install wine ...

Hi, I am back with Mandrake flavours of Linux again after a few years of 'the dark side 8.1' an update just killed my PC and brought a whole host of hardware probs so i have finaly had enough of the supposed easy life and am going to trust my maintenance business and photography files to windows no more.
i have been a mandrake dabbler since version 8, loved the 2010 distro but went back to windows again looking for an easier life but the tco of windows and its reliability have brought me back home again.
i am rubbish with command lines etc. but i will get there i suppose, my new PC arrives tomorrow so will spend tonight working out my best chances of getting everthing working 'straight from the box'.
my only real worry so far is my canon ip4700 printer but hope turboprint will run it.
my next post should be from my magiea 3 pure linux box! (and will probably be about printers) :)

Where I have worked I have some times had to downgrade from windows xp to window vista or 7. They are horible. So I agree with you Peril66 but that is not to say I will be staying with Mageia though it one of the best I have evaluated.

Just a slight update since coming aboard in December but all I've got to say is WOW ! Undoubtedly the smoothest upgrade form Mandriva I've ever had and a decidely much smoother runnng distro overall. Everything is working great ( except a few Wine problems) but really believe they're more a hardware issue than software. Windows doesn't stand a chance against this. Keep up the great work Magia, a huge following awaits.

My name is Jon. I come from the panhandle (northwest) of Florida. I have not been here for quite some time due to having to take a haiitus because of health issues I inherited from my service to the United States (Army). Now that I am feeling better I wish to contribute somehow besides donations. I hope to make new friends here and am a very approachable guy. So please not only introduce yourself here but also PM me if you like. This distribution is getting better and better. I want to be a part of it. Thank You all for the time and consideration and welcoming me here and back.
