Mageia 3 (64) KDE - after system update x crashes

Postby fonon » Jan 23rd, '14, 21:08

I'm using Mageia 3 (64) and KDE. The graphic card is based on the simple ati processor. The operating system worked fine until last update. Now, the system boots up but the welcome screen is frozen. The user selector window doesn't appear. When the system starts in the safe mode - the console mode is available. After startx command black screen appears. How to restore the graphic mode?

Thank You for answer. It works! Unfortunately, I can't set full resolution now. The system indicates the pnp display properly (1680x1050 pixels), but the monitor resolution is limited to 1280x1024 (desktop configuration tools). Previously, I had some problems with the movies displayed in full-screen mode and the animated screen-savers (the analog clock for example). Now both - movies and clock are displayed properly.
How can I set the native resolution of my display?
Best regards,
f.

Did you select vesa driver? It doesn't offer all resolutions which are possible by your graphics card / display.
Please show the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA
rpm -qa | grep -e fglrx -e "-ati"

First I selected "Radeon HD 5000 and later without free driver (vesa/fglrx)".
After restart of the OS this driver is present, but next time... - "Radeon HD 5000 to HD 6300 (radeon/fglrx)" (I did test of and didn't change anything).
Now I selected the VESA driver and probably graphic card works better but the resolution is still limited to 1280x1024.
